Mission and history of the department

Training of highly qualified, harmoniously developed, in-demand, practice-oriented specialists and scientific personnel in the field of agronomy and forestry for the sustainable development of the agro-industrial complex and other agricultural sectors of the republic. The Department of Forestry was established in November 1999 on the initiative of the Kyrgyz National Agrarian University named after. K.I. Skryabin and the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Kyrgyz-Swiss Forestry Support Program (Kirles) provided great assistance to the creation of the department. Then, by the decision of the Academic Council of the University in January 2014, the Department of Forestry and Fruit Growing was renamed.

The department is graduating, has sufficient educational and methodological materials for lectures and practical classes, and is equipped with office equipment, equipment and tools.

The head of the department since 2023 is Imanaliev Almaz Tabyldyevich.

The department teaches in 31 different disciplines of environmental and forestry areas. Now students are studying in the direction of “bachelor” and “master” 730100 “Forestry and landscape construction.”

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCHER WORK OF TEACHERS

  1. The research work of teachers, researchers, graduate students and students of the department is carried out in the main directions. At the moment, 4 candidate dissertations are being prepared for defense. The department also teaches 2 full-time and 3 part-time graduate students, conducts research on 4 research topics.

    Graduates of the department of forestry are engaged in research work not only in Kyrgyzstan, but also abroad (in Austria, Germany, Russia, etc.).

    The department cooperates with leading universities of the Republic, institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic, such as the Botanical Garden named after E.E. Gareeva, Forest Institute, Innovation Center of Phytotechnology NAN KR and management of monitoring of forest ecosystems, Department of Forestry, Biosphere Territory “Issyk-Kul” at GAOOS and LH KR and Alamudun State Expert Committee. The department also cooperates with universities abroad.

  1. The curriculum is developed in accordance with the requirements of the State Educational Standards. The department has developed the State Standard for the academic degree “bachelor” and “master” in the directions 730100 “Forestry and landscape construction” and 611000 “Gardening” in Kyrgyz and Russian languages. Curricula have been developed for all assigned academic disciplines, the content of which sufficiently reveals the required amount of material in accordance with qualification requirements. The design of the work programs of the disciplines is an established set of materials that allows you to ensure the quality of the classes.

     

                Educational and methodological complexes have been formed at the department for all assigned disciplines, including a work program, methodological materials on types of classes and control of students’ knowledge. The department is working on writing textbooks, manuals and guidelines for various disciplines in the Kyrgyz language. For 5 years more than 90 scientific articles, 5 monographs, 25 lectures, 15 manuals and guidelines have been published.

     

                To conduct practice-oriented classes at the department, a “Fruit and Forest Nursery” was organized, an orchard in the KNAU Educational and Experimental Farm. In the educational process, special classes and a collection nursery are used to conduct practical classes in various disciplines.

     

                Employees of the department constantly take part in many international and republican conferences, symposiums, seminars and round tables.

     

       – Seminar “Capacity Support in Forest Education, Research and Training in Central Asia”;

     

    – seminar “Methods of dealing with snow avalanches and landslides”;

     

    – German-Kyrgyz symposium: on pasture and forest management. Study training;

     

    – Seminar on the creation of a model forestry “Conservation of genetic resources of fruit crops in Central Asia for the purpose of their diverse and sustainable use.”

     

                In recent years, the staff of the department has participated in international projects that have been partially implemented at the department: the project “Creation of a Center for Biocultural Diversity” by the Christensen Foundation, the project “UNEP-GEF / Bioversity International In situ / Onfarm conservation and use of agrobiodiversity (fruit crops and their wild relatives in Central Asia”, project – Bioversity International/CRPGL “Conservation of genetic resources of fruit crops in Central Asia for the purpose of their diverse and sustainable use”, project – PF “Biomuras” Christensen Foundation. Project for the development of the UNDP “Green Economy” Module. Tien Shan Forest Ecosystem Development (GEF/WB) Kumtor Mine Reclamation Project.
